Letter From the President

It is a great honor for me, on behalf of the McGinty family, to present this Annual Report of the McGinty Family Foundation.
When the family first considered establishing an educational foundation, we recognized that education was a far-reaching social issue. We observed that institutions of higher learning were in need of capital and operating funds. However, these same institutions had the ability to secure resources from a broad range of financial sources. At the same time, tax laws made it difficult for private foundations to award direct scholarship grants to individuals. In addition, for a variety of reasons, there was a large pool of unused scholarship funds available to students.
Our research indicated that the most meaningful contribution we could make with our limited capital was in the areas of primary and secondary education. We believe these areas would have been closest to the hearts of my parents, for whom the Foundation was dedicated. It is in primary and secondary schools that we begin to forge our moral values and develop a love for learning. Supporting dedicated teachers, bringing innovative educational projects to life, and helping motivated students who may lack resources to pursue educational opportunities seemed to us the best way to fulfill the dreams of our parents and grandparents.
In our early years of operation, our contributions to education were limited because few institutions in Northeastern Ohio and Western Massachusetts knew of our existence. Now, however, that is beginning to change, and the number of grant requests is increasing. This is surely good news, and we eagerly look forward to making a meaningful contribution to the educational process in the years ahead. Our beginnings were modest, our vision broad, and our efforts tireless.
We cannot conclude without thanking the members of our Board of Trustees and Distribution Committee for their selfless and extraordinary efforts in helping us achieve the mission of this Foundation. They have been steadfast in their commitment to launching this program in a positive manner, and for that, we are most grateful.
